ROVATTS - Reconfigurable Airborne Sensor Platform (RASP)
ATD's ROVATTS-based RASP was designed to provide an easy-to-use, laptop (or PC)-based simulation capable of providing realistic sensor video downlink (VDL) feeds (from manned and unmanned ISR platforms) needed to support a variety of applications including JTAC Type-2 Control/VDL (aka “Rover”) training; stimulation of Tactical Operations Centers/Command Posts; stimulation of Intelligence Exploitation Centers; law enforcement and other first-responder/natural disaster response situations; and sensor operator training (basic or advanced, generic or aircraft/sensor-specific).
In order to provide such a wide spectrum of training capabilities, SDS designed RASP to support a variety of configurations (aircraft/sensors) and modes (automated, programmable and manual), and include use of highly-realistic tactical scenarios composed of ATD's LIFE-based AI-driven content (vehicles, aircraft, humans, animals, and special effects). Initial RASP versions utilize the IOS and sensor station portions of ATD's ROVATTS-based MQ-1/MQ-9 PC-based simulations to provide highly-realistic MQ-1/MQ-9 sensor feeds without the use of the pilot function. As such, this version can provide VDL needed to support typical JTAC, Operations Center and Intelligence training needs. When fitted with ATD's Desktop Control Units (DCU), these versions can also provide sensor operator training using realistic MQ-1/MQ-9 form/fit/function hardware control and HUD/Tracker/Command/Status displays/functionality, all while using realistic sensor scenes provided by ATD's CYBORG Game-Engine and LIFE AI-driven scene content.
Other RASP-Sim configurations, using game-controllers, can also provide streaming sensor video with sensor-specific metadata, generic metadata or raw video needed to support a variety of training applications including typical JTAC, Operations Center or Intelligence training, but they do not support sensor-specific sensor operator training requiring form/fit/function HW/SW interfaces. All RASP-Sim systems can include either an imbedded or separate IOS to facilitate ease-of-control; and an embedded or separate LIFE AI-driven scene content capability. RASP-Sims can also include instructor programmable capabilities used to provide VDL (without requiring an actual sensor operator) to users during dynamic scenarios, and/or automated capabilities used primarily to provide sensor feeds of pre-determined target areas to users during scripted events without need for human intervention. In addition, was designed to connect to real-world analysis tools to support training of Intel personnel using those real-world tools.
